Biographical Highlights
With a B.S. in Child Development and Masters of Human
Relations, Mary has pursued strengthening families for over 35
years in child care centers, schools, churches, and community
agencies, as well as raising her own three grown children on
Adlerian parenting principles. A Family Life Specialist with
Iowa State University Extension, Mary offers training in 10 SW
Iowa counties in child development, discipline, early
childhood, stress management, parent education, and family
caregiving in later life. Adlerian principles form the
foundation for any training Mary undertakes. She is co-chair
of the Family Education Section of the North American Society
of Adlerian Psychologists (NASAP).
Through Enrich-Abilities, inc., Mary, and her husband Gary,
both Certified Positive Discipline Associates, provide
training in Positive Discipline for parent educators, church
families and professionals, school teachers, and early
childhood educators. Mary and Gary regularly teach Positive
Discipline in the Christian Home in their home church, using
the book of this title, which Mary co-authored with Jane
Nelsen, Cheryl Erwin, and Mike Brock in 2002. Mary developed
My Toolbag©, visual metaphors for teaching relationship
principles - a fun way to present very serious information.
As a frequent speaker in a variety of settings, Mary keynotes
and provides conference workshops on a variety of topics. Mary
is known for her inspiring messages with practical application
to daily living. As a Positive Discipline Lead Trainer, Mary
works with individuals seeking Positive Discipline Associate
certification, answers questions as part of a team from the
Positive Discipline web-site, and conducts the two-day
workshops Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way and
Positive Discipline In the Classroom
Mary currently lives with her husband, Gary, as near as
possible to her three children and grandchildren, in Omaha,
Nebraska.
